The Huntington Anglers Club was formed in 1948 by a group of concerned anglers to foster their sport, assist others, enjoy a common friendship and disseminate pertinent fishing information among its members. Through the years, our organization has proven itself and excelled in many areas, and we are now a fast paced active club consisting of over 100 members, family members included. We are a member of the New York Sportfishing Federation, Greater Huntington Boating Council, and BOAT/US.
Most of the members own their own boats, but those that fish the surf, flyrodders, party boat aficionados, and bridge-pier-bulkhead fisherman also fish for trophies yearly. These are awarded at our Annual Awards Dinner and consist of the following categories: Men 16 yrs. and older, women 16 yrs. and older, Jr. boys and girls under 16 and pee-wees, boys and girls, 8 yrs. and younger. Awards are also given for monthly fish, scheduled derbies, outstanding or special catches, Angler of the Year, Sportsmanship, Junior and Senior, Awards, Rookie of the Year and Conservation Award.
Our meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Huntington Elks Club, 195 East Main Street, Huntington, NY at 8 PM. Meetings consist of a business portion, several fact filled up to the minute fishing reports from members, a fishing oriented guest speaker, tackle raffle and complementary food and beverages.
Monthly meeting notices are mailed prior to that month's meeting, and describe the upcoming meeting speaker or highlighted activity - be it a tackle manufacturer representative, charter captain, fishing clinic, swap and shop, a representative from a marine related organization or agency, and/or local dignataries. Monthly meeting notices also compile standings for members weighing in fish by species.
In the early part of the year, an annual activities schedule is provided each member with the dates for the year’s upcoming activities. These include: Monthly fish categories, intra-club fishing derbies, fishing contests with other local clubs (including free Sunday breakfast), the annual beach picnic (clam and corn roast), beach lobster party, the annual awards dinner, Christmas party (Santa for the kids) and club organized fishing trips.
