Huntington Anglers Club

New York

About Us

The Huntington Anglers Club was formed in 1948 by a group of concerned anglers to foster their sport, assist others, enjoy a common friendship and disseminate pertinent fishing information among its members. Through the years, our organization has proven itself and excelled in many areas, and we are now a fast-paced, active club consisting of over 100 single and family members. We are a member of the New York Sportfishing Federation, Greater Huntington Boating Council, and BOAT/US.

We also discuss the complicated issues of balancing environmental concerns with access for the local recreational fishery.  We discuss licensing as per New York State and Federal regulation and, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, safe boating.  We discuss all methods of safe catch, release, and table fair.  These include methods from the surf, flyrodders, party boat aficionados, and bridge-pier-bulkhead fisherman, fishing from owned watercraft.  We do award prizes at our annual Awards Dinner in the following categories:  Men 16yrs and older, Women 16yrs and older, Jr. Boys and Girls under 16, and pee-wee boys and girls 8yrs and younger.  Awards are also given for monthly fish, outstanding or special catches, Angler of the Year, Sportsmanship, Junior and Senior Awards, Rookie of the Year, and Conservation Award.

Our meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Huntington American Legion Post 360, 1 Mill Dam Rd, Huntington, NY at 8 PM. Meetings consist of a business portion; several fact filled, up-to-the-minute fishing reports from members; a fishing oriented guest speaker; tackle raffle; and refreshments.

Monthly meeting notices are mailed prior to that month's meeting, and describe the upcoming meeting speaker or highlighted activity - be it a tackle manufacturer representative, charter captain, fishing clinic, swap and shop, a representative from a marine related organization or agency, and/or local dignitaries.  Monthly meeting notices also compile standings for members weighing in fish by species at authorized tackle shops and weigh-in stations.

In the early part of the year, an annual activities schedule is provided each member with the dates for the year’s upcoming activities. These include: Monthly fish categories, intra-club fishing derbies, fishing contests with other local clubs (including free Sunday breakfast), the annual beach picnic (clam and corn roast), beach lobster party, the annual awards dinner, Christmas party (Santa for the kids,) and club organized fishing trips.
